Medical Equipment Planning

The combined medical equipment and fittings account for a significant share of the total project budget, which are the second most expensive line item after the cost of construction itself. Lower costing alternatives within the agreed standard are investigated.

In close cooperation with our contractors, we exclusively deliver project-related medical equipment solutions tailored to fit the individual healthcare design. On the basis of colour and material conceptions verified by the client, we choose equipment, furniture and fittings, put them out to tender and finally do the ordering. AEP's affiliated company AEPmed integrates all medical equipment directly into the AEP building design.

Target planning

In order to obtain a long-term economic orientation of the hospital architecture, target planning is a factor that is getting more and more important for an optimized hospital structure.

The modernization of hospitals is a constant need. Basically, there are two possibilities to handle construction measures: a completely new building as replacement for the old one on new premises, or the gradual remodelling, replacement and/or extension of the existing buildings which are still in operation.

In the case of a completely new building it is possible to design an ideal in terms of function, town planning and architecture without any restrictions. In the case of the modernization of an existing building, target planning is an essential planning strategy. .

Operational Planning

In order to guarantee an economic and efficient hospital enterprise it is necessary to investigate the existing organisational structures, process sequences and productive capacity and compare them to the operating costs and effectiveness.

Operational planning involves the development of conceptual proposals relating to structural, operational and constructural functions on the basis of an assessment analysis, target planning, list of requirements and room programme.

Having once assessed the organisational structure the functions will be optimised and documented together with the necessary costs of implementation and staff change.

Function and room programs

A detailed function- and room programme is the basis (prerequisite) for any realistic building proposal regarding hospitals. The function- and room programme is based on the conceptual specifications and objectives of the client, and contains specific requirements regarding medical organisational structures of the future building.

When developing a function- and room programme for the public sector AEPmed takes particular care to try to make the work suitable for a subsidy or possible investment support.

Conveyor technology

The latest conveyor technology can enormously optimise and simplify the day to day running of a hospital. AEPmed integrates the latest systems, ranging from simple goods and passenger lifts and elevators to driverless transport systems (DTS,AWT) and pneumatic tube conveyors, into the planning process.

As such systems have the ability to cut the operating costs significantly AEPmed will advise the client as to which system should be chosen and implemented.

Interior design

In close cooperation with our architects and interior designers AEPmed plans exclusively project orientated the medical equipment of the health sector.

On the basis of a colour and material conception verified by the client, AEPmed will choose equipment, furniture and fittings, put them out to tender and finally do the ordering. Lower costing alternatives to the agreed standard will also be investigated and suggested.

Biomedical and laboratory technology

In order to design the medical and laboratory departments, one has to have a comprehensive knowledge of the necessary equipment and apparatus. The economic success and quality of the diagnostic and therapy rely heavily upon the optimal deployment of the them. AEPmed takes care and spends much time planning the fixed medical and laboratory equipment and mobile apparatus, and watches over the installation through to taking into service.

AEPmed explicitly integrates in the planning process new (product neutral) and existing machinery according to the budget and specification wishes of the client.

Due to the long experience of our professional personnel we are able to offer specialised planning for:

  • Monitor and camera technologies
  • Sterilisation and disinfection areas
  • GMP- clean rooms
  • Laboratory planning
  • Security systems

GMP clean rooms

processes designed to prevent contaminated air from entering a room. It is to achieve a standardised clean or ultra clean working climate for the manufacture of medical products and micro-biological research, pharmaceuticals, blood cells and stem cells. In order to have the clean or ultra clean room to GMP standards (Good manufacturing practice) certified, the complete planning, building and assembling, through to being taken into service has to meticulously documented, through requirement and functional specification of:
Design Qualification (DQ)
Installation Qualification (IQ)
Operation Qualification (OQ)

Finally the Performance Qualification (PQ) of the user also has to be documented.

AEPmed designs, supervises and documents the building of clean and ultra clean rooms according to GMP standards.

Data processing

A decisive factor in the economic running of hospitals is the uncomplicated use of IT- systems in the areas of medicine, health care and administration. The integration all the various areas up to facility management requires a complex planning of the EDP (electric data processing) system.

The following EDP systems have to be considered:

  • HIS – Hospital - Information - System
  • RIS – Radiological - Information - System
  • PACS – Picture Archiving and Communication System
  • PDMS – Patienten-Daten-Management-System
  • Networking - Haemodynamic - Monitoring
  • Telemetrie - Televised - Medicine
  • IDM – Infusion - Data - Management - System
